About Us
Since 1969, the Asian American Tutorial Project (AATP), has gone to Castelar Elementary School in Los Angeles Chinatown to tutor immigrant children in the hopes of providing them with the skills and guidance necessary to gain access to a higher education.
AATP has a pool of approximately 200 tutors from OXY, UCLA, & USC who provide tutorial and mentoring services every Saturday morning to the students of Castelar Elementary. Although the majority of the community we serve are of Chinese and Latino ancestry, our tutors hail from all corners of the world.
AATP welcomes anyone who is dedicated and loves kids. Each tutor is paired with at least one tutee for one quarter (or 6 weeks) and helps them with math, reading comprehension, and other subject areas covered in worksheet packets. Tutors who return after their first quarter form strong bonds with their tutees, some lasting several years!
